About Our Mission & 11-11-11...

Almost 4 years ago today, on November 11th, 2011 (11/11/11) Hwa Rang Do® Grandmaster, Taejoon Lee, our Black Sash Instructors, Officers & Leaders of the World Hwa Rang Do® Association - governing body for the martial & healing art of Hwa Rang Do worldwide - convened at a snow-covered cabin in Big Bear, CA to transform their organization and mission to one of humanitarian nature.

On 11/11/11 in Big Bear, our leaders laid the foundation for the future, based on a simple yet powerful purpose… to use the virtues of our martial discipline, from a focus on self-betterment to a focus on the betterment of all of humanity.

Thus, the World Hwa Rang Do Association became the first martial art organization to become a Humanitarian Non-Profit Organization defining a vision statement, which reads as follows:

Hwa Rang Do®: A Legacy of Loyalty

RELENTLESSLY

Seeking Truth

Empowering Lives

Serving Humanity

Since that day, our members and leaders have funded scholarships for under-privileged youths who could not afford martial arts training, conducted hundreds of free self-defense classes world wide, launched adaptive training programs for disabled students, motivational talks & demonstrations at inner city schools, volunteered at homeless shelters, conducted food drives, initiated humanitarian missions internationally and so much more.

To commemorate the 4th anniversary of our 11/11/11 Summit and help bring us closer to peace and unity, we've created "A Day of Calming” where we invite the world to take a moment of reflection, meditation and prayer for 11 minutes, on the 11th hour, on the 11th day, on the 11th month of each year.

What Is Hwa Rang Do® ?

The 4-7-8 Breath

To begin the meditation, the starting technique we recommend is the 4-7-8 breath. You breath in for 4 counts, hold breath for 7 counts and breath out for 8 counts. And then repeat 4 or 8 times. Afterwards, breathe normally and sit quietly for the remainder of the 11 minutes of meditation and just be mindful.

This technique was passed on to us by one of our board members, Dr. Andrew Weil, world renowned holistic health expert. Dr. Weil has found this relaxing breath count to be the most optimal way to begin one's journey into a meditative state of calm and peace.

If you are new to meditation, this is what we'd recommend for you, as well.

The Power of Calm

Grandmaster Lee (or Tae Dosanim) was once quoted as saying, "The key to the universe lies dormant within the self, waiting to awaken through self-discovery".

It is our belief that in order to live extraordinary lives and to leave a positive legacy, rather than look outward, one must look inward to discover self-truths and build a foundation of hope, love and compassion. Only with belief by dwelling in the realm of possibilities can we expand to achieve the impossible. Hence, better understanding the Ultimate Truth.

Life sometimes seems to play tricks on us, as in times when we try to strive and push towards achieving our goals, however many or at least the most important, essential goals of achieving true happiness may allude us, no matter how hard we try.

A journey of self-discovery will help you look inward with humility, and help discover a way to achieve your potential, without fear and frustration. This journey culminates in the ability to reach a state of calm, so that just like a body of water which is still and clearly reflects its environment, our state of calmness may clearly reflect the truth about ourselves and give us clearer direction on the path forward to live happy, fulfilling lives and achieve your potential.

As an organization, our mission is to be the "Jedi" of the future, helping mankind rise to a higher level of consciousness, achievement and existence void of the pettiness which plagues our lives every single day.

The “Day of Calming” begins this November 11th.

Please help us share and grow this tradition by inviting your friends, family and friends to participate by going to www.DayofCalming.com and use the social media buttons to easily spread the word!
